Authentication & Catalogue Raisonné
A message from the Estate
Request an examinationThe Fateh Moudarres Estate is entrusted with the protection of the artist’s intellectual and artistic legacy, and with preserving the integrity and proper attribution of his work.
The Estate examines works attributed to Fateh Moudarres and determines their authenticity and attribution according to established scholarly and documentary principles. Rania Moudarres, the artist’s daughter, holds the sole authority to authenticate works on behalf of the Estate. The Estate is legally represented by Maître Hittinger-Roux, avocat à la Cour de Paris.
Authentication is undertaken within the framework of the Catalogue Raisonné and the archives of the Estate. The Estate considers the work’s stylistic, technical and material characteristics, its provenance and documentary history, archival evidence, and its relationship to works securely established within the artist’s body of work.
Works recognised as authentic by the Estate are incorporated into its archival records and, where appropriate, into the Catalogue Raisonné. Each work is assigned a reference number corresponding to its archival record, following the Estate’s system of identification by medium, dimensions and date.
Submission
Requests for authentication should be accompanied by clear, high-resolution photographs of the work, including:
- The front and reverse
- The signature and any inscription
- Labels, stamps, annotations or other identifying marks
- The frame or stretcher, where relevant
Photographs should be taken in good, even light and supplied at their original resolution. Documents should be provided as clear scans, preferably at a minimum of 300 dpi.
Any documentation relating to the work should also be provided, including invoices, previous attestations, exhibition records, publication references, correspondence, and provenance documentation.
Acceptance into the Estate’s Archives
Every submission is first considered by the Estate on the basis of the material and documentation provided.
Only works which, following this initial consideration, are accepted by the Estate as warranting inclusion in the authenticated body of work and the Estate’s archival records proceed to formal authentication and archival documentation.
Upon such acceptance, the Estate communicates the applicable professional fee relating to the scholarly research, authentication and archival documentation of the work.
No fee is associated with the submission or preliminary consideration of a work that is not accepted into this process.
The determination of authenticity remains solely a matter of the Estate’s scholarly judgement and is never contingent upon the payment or amount of the applicable professional fee.
Authentication and Archival Record
Following acceptance, the Estate undertakes the research and examination necessary to establish the work’s place within Fateh Moudarres’s oeuvre and to complete its archival record. Where necessary, additional documentation or physical examination of the work may be requested.
Once the Estate has established the authenticity of the work, it is formally recorded in the archives of the Fateh Moudarres Estate and, where appropriate, entered into the Catalogue Raisonné under its corresponding reference number.
This record forms part of the Estate’s continuing scholarly responsibility for the documentation, preservation and protection of Fateh Moudarres’s artistic and intellectual legacy.
